Often the unmentioned deciding factor in a teams campaign is their lack of injuries. One of the many things that went Chelsea’s way last season was the fact that despite playing essentially the same starting 11 for the entire season they didn’t have a single injury to a major star. At the beginning of this season now both Alvaro Morata and N’Golo Kante have picked up injuries.

N’Golo Kante has reportedly picked up the same injury as Alvaro Morata. A degree of hamstring strain whose seriousness has not yet been determined.
That said a hamstring strain at all is a highly indicative injury. Unlike say a broken wrist or a twisted ankle both of which are freak and hard to predict a hamstring injury is almost always related to fatigue.
The fact that two Chelsea players have already picked up this sort of injury is exactly the reason why Conte asked Chelsea to keep Matic for the season. Conte’s method is one based on hard work and constant running. The high press that it is built around needs players who are highly rested and in fantastic athletic condition. That is one of the reasons why Conte famously puts such an emphasis on diet and vitamins.
The fact that Chelsea already have two
players suffering from this highly
indicative injury shows exactly what is
wrong with Chelsea FC at board level.
The coach has a strategy and yet it
appears at times that the technical
director is working almost in direct
contradiction of that highly successful
strategy.
Chelsea FC will need to improve on their teamwork from a technical level in order for the team to work on a footballing level.
