Half-time: Qarabag 0 Chelsea 2 – brilliant Willian goal leaves Blues in control

Eden Hazard’s penalty and Willian’s brilliant goal put Chelsea in control of the Champions League game in Baku, where a win would seal their place in the knockout stage.

Qarabag are down to 10 men, with Rashad Sadygov having been red-carded after fouling Willian in the box before Hazard scored with the resulting spot-kick.

Chelsea started without an out and out striker, with Hazard leading the attack supported by Willian and Pedro. And the trio combined to double the lead in fine style eight minutes before half-time.

Pedro found Willian, who nudged the ball to Hazard and then collected the Belgian’s back-heel before side-footing into the corner of the net.

Earlier, Michel went close for the home side when he fired against the near post.

But Chelsea have been comfortable since the opening goal and Willian almost made it 3-0 when he went close with a free-kick a couple of minutes before the interval.

Chelsea: C ourtois; Azpilicueta (c), David Luiz, Rudiger; Zappacosta, Kante, Fabregas, Alonso; Willian, Hazard, Pedro. Subs: Caballero, Cahill, Christensen, Sterling, Drinkwater, Bakayoko, Morata.
