Revealed; Reason WhyArsenal star isn’t joining Chelsea

CHELSEA will not sign Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez because his wages would impact on the current Blues players.

That is the view of Sky Sports pundit, Chelsea fan and former Arsenal forward Paul Merson.

Sanchez is set to complete his move to Manchester United today, with a medical reportedly taking place today.

The Chile international will earn a staggering £500,000-a-week during his time at Old Trafford to make him one of the highest paid players in the world.

Chelsea did express an interest in Sanchez earlier this month and have been linked with him in the past.

Paul Merson on why Chelsea will not sign Alexis Sanchez

The Blues are on the market for a forward, with the likes of Andy Carroll and Edin Dzeko on their list of targets. Merson says Chelsea needed Sanchez but admits the likes of Eden Hazard and Willian would have been demanding pay rises if he arrived in west London.

“They needed Sanchez,” he said.

“If they would have got Sanchez I think they get in the top four.

“But if you go and get Sanchez, you bet your bottom dollar come what two days later, Hazard’s agent’s knocking on the door, Willian’s is knocking on the door, (Cesc) Fabregas, (N’Golo) Kante.

“They’re all knocking on the door and before you know it, that £100million signing for his package turns into £200m.”

Alexis Sanchez has scored eight goals in 22 games for Arsenal this season.
