Antonio Conte opens up about Chelsea’s forgotten man

Antonio Conte has admitted that Baba Rahman is struggling to break back into the first team at Chelsea following his lay-off with a serious injury.

The Ghana left-back is currently recovering from a serious injury sustained while playing for his country at the African Cup of Nations last year.

Rahman is yet to make a first-team appearance for Chelsea this season and it seems that he is struggling to regain his best form for the west London side.

And Conte admits that he is hoping to be able to give Rahman a chance in the first team this season at Stamford Bridge.

Speaking at a news conference at Cobham on Friday, Conte said: “This player is coming back from a bad injury and he’s struggling a bit to recover the best form.

“I must be honest, I don’t know what will happen with Baba. From a human aspect, I’d like to give him an opportunity to come back strong like before. “Now he has to face his recovery.

He’s showing great patience because he’s struggling a lot. If I can help him I’m ready to help him because there is the player, and then there is the human aspect. For him it’s good to stay here and recover.”

Chelsea return to Premier League action with their first game of the new year when they take on Arsenal at The Emirates on Wednesday night.

The west London side are aiming to try and defend their Premier League title this season but that is looking increasingly unlikely given Manchester City’s stunning form.

It remains to be seen whether Chelsea will look to spend big in the January transfer window or not, with the Blues having signed six players over the summer.
