“It’s a great club” – Kepa explains why he turned down Real Madrid and Juventus for Chelsea

Kepa Arrizabalaga has had a busy summer.

After a breakthrough league season, he wasn’t given a moment’s rest, and he was whisked off to the World Cup.

After that he was back in preseason training with Atheltic Bilbao when the call came through that Chelsea wanted to make him the most expensive goalie in history.

When that deal was completed, he was in goal at Huddersfield just a couple of days later.

So he’s not exactly had a wealth of time to adjust and settle in. This international break would make a nice opportunity – if Kepa wasn’t off again with Spain doing international things.

While with his country he’s had an interview with sports paper AS where he has discussed what made him come to the Bridge.

They asked why he chose Chelsea when he had been pursued for years by clubs like Real Madrid and Juventus – what made the difference for the Blues? His answer was clear.

“It’s a great club, that in the last few years has won the Champions League, the Europa League, the Premier League, it’s a team with great players.” No half measures there then. Let’s just hope he goes on to be one of those greats.
